Madam C.J. Walker
First recorded black American female who became a self-made millionaire
When you think impossible odds, you will forever think of Madam C.J. Walker. This amazing woman who was born, “Sarah Breedlove” on December 23, 1867, would be the first in her family not to be born into slavery.
Despite being the first in her family to be born into freedom she would find herself raised in poverty. At this point, most would call it quits, and simply give up. That was not the spirit of Madam C. J. Walker. Not by a long shot.
Sarah would find work as a washerwoman being paid $1.50. It would be backbreaking work. But Sarah would not relent.
